Ditched LinkSys Firmware in my WRT150n
Been fighting this cable router for a while. Symptoms were that when it gets a lot of traffic, it just stops working, requiring a reboot (unplug and plug back in). Then it is all happy again.
After playing with LinkSys support again for a few hours on the 23rd, I decided to try something new.
I actually have two routers available, I was having similar issues with my WRT-350N. So I looked up DD-WRT an alternative firmware based on Linux for my router. I found that they didn’t support the 350N so I tried it on the WRT150N instead.
Upgrading it was very simple.
- First I downloaded both the mini and generic files.
- I wrote down the NAT settings since that was the only really thing that I can’t rebuild from memory.
- I then loaded the mini firmware first.
- After I logged in again, I then loaded the generic software second.
After resetting up the NAT’s and configuring the rest of the normal configuration (like password change, administrative functions etc) it has been up and running since. Not a burp.
After I did the upgrade, I found a web page that had complete instructions for the same cable router:

Omnia Retractable Data/Power Cable
One of the first things that I got for my new phone was a retractable data/power cable.

Mini-Sync Omnia Cable
I needed a data/charge cable, preferably one that retracts that I could carry with me that worked plugged into any USB power source.
Apparently, Samsung did some tricks and some how prevents the device from charging unless you use power from an AC USB device or a USB from a computer. Cigarette lighter USB connections didn’t work.
This cable solves that by having two plugs on the phone end. One for plugging into just a power device (including Cigarette lighter USB adapters), and one for plugging into a computer for data and charging.
Works great.

Cable Unretracted
Note that this did not come with any instructions at all, but the plug that has the symbols on it, is for AC power or USB non-computer power connections.
Also, these showed up FAST!. I ordered them on a Thursday and they arrived on Saturday.
Price: $19.95

Weather Websites…
I have had a weather station for many years. The main weather site for the station is using Weather-Display and can be found here: http://www.tnetweather.com.
Recently, I’ve been playing with a new Weather Software package called Cumulus. I’ve got a completely new style website at http://cumulus2.tnet.com
Need a better theme
Need to find a better theme. This one is minimal which is what I wanted but it has huge white space at the top that I have not figured out how to change. Still learning how to manipulate this new tool.
Samsung Omnia SCH-i910
I got me a new phone. The Omnia i910 which works with the Verizon network. I have been using up until now a Samsung i760 also with Verizon, which is/has/was been the best phone up to this date.
Unlike the i760, the Omnia is much smaller (thinner), doesn’t have a slide out keyboard. It uses a virtual keyboard which takes a little getting used to.
But it has quickly become the most versatile phone I’ve used up to date.
I’ve had the phone since Dec 4th, kinda of an early Xmas present for myself.
First Post…
Just my first message with the new blog.
Never used a blog before though I am very familiar with forum software. I’ve set this up to see how it works, and perhaps to make it a more permanent part of the website.
