Okay… Now what?
So I needed a webcam to use with Skype. I got to play with a lot of webcams at work and the one I liked the best was the Logitech 9000. It is simple to use and comes with an array of optional avatars, screen effects and Face Accessories. I especially like the face accessories.
So now I have a webcam… to use with Skype for support “conferences”…
Backup Power just in time
My original APC UPS for my primary workstation fried the other day… nice that it died and didn’t take anything with it. However, this is the 3rd APC that has failed in the past several months and I thought I’d give someone else a try.
I picked up a CyberPower 1500VA/900W unit off of Amazon for a decent price and installed it this afternoon.
It protects both my main workstation and monitor as well as the important residential and business cable modems and the residential cable router. In this current load, the unit says it will last for about 48mins. If there is a real power failure and I am home, I will just turn off the workstation and let it keep the cable modems and router up for a much longer time as the load will be next to nothing then.
Just so happens we had our first thunderstorm of the season… might have been good timing. I’ve got the USB (Yes another USB device) cable and software hooked up and it is watching the unit.
Verizon Omnia GPS Unlock Update – Promise Broken!
UPDATE: See http://www.tnet.com/blogged/2009/07/16/new-official-rom-released-for-omnia-i910/
Verizion said it would unlock the GPS in the Samsung Omnia by the end of the
2nd QTR….
Well, they apparently didn’t bother. They did release a GPS unlock for the HTC Touch Pro and the Samsung Sage, and they were forced by RIM to correct it on the BB Storm, but clearly they broke their promise on doing it for the Omnia i910.
“Don’t be afraid of dead zones” Right!
Apparently, Verizon is the “DEAD ZONE” in keeping its promises as in like, not keeping them.
I’ve got 4 other family members who have devices with unlocked GPS capabilities in their cell phones, none of whom even care about the feature. ALL of them with AT&T. The only family member that could actually use it, is me with a locked “Broken Promise” GPS Verizon Wireless Omnia i910.
See if I sign up for another 2 year agreement with Verizon now. Not likely.
Planned purchase of the new MiFi 2200 – CANCELED
Plan migration of the rest of the family to Verizon (3 of 4 have data plans) – CANCELED
Plan to purchase any new phones from Verizon – CANCELED
UPDATE: It appears that Verizon is reading the release of a new ROM CF03. The links to the actual download are not yet active. *Edited* 2009/07/15
“Don’t be afraid of dead zones.”
Awaken in the night…
Every night after I’ve fallen asleep, I sometimes get awaken by my phone letting me
kindly know that is has been fully charged…
Nice… but I really don’t need to know that.
There is no apparent way to turn this off though.
Just found a post that appears to fix that. I will give it a try during the day to see what happens.
Posting was on Modaco…

Omnia – Fix Ring Tone Volume
Some find annoying the ring tone adjustment that comes standard on the Omnia i910. When a call comes in, the ring tone is muted a bit and then goes to full volume.
The following Registry Change fixes this so that the volume is full volume on the first ring.
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring\AttenuationCategory
Change value to 1
You need to use a registry editor like Resco Explorer or other registry editor (like CeRegEditor), to make this change.
After the change, wait 20 seconds and then do a soft reboot.
Note: This apparently does NOT work on the i900 version of the phone.
Other settings for this value are:
0 is no ringtone volume
1 is flat ringtone volume
2 is increasing ringtone volume

Left turn on a straight road
3:04am… Been awake for about 30 mins.. trying to get back to sleep.
I hear another jerk speeding down the street seeing what their vehicle can do as I’ve heard numerous times before… this time… I hear them hit the brakes, long screeching noises, bang and the whole house shudders..
Lisa wakes up and says something about the cats knocking something down… I tell her that cats don’t have headlights pointing into the back yard.
The guy hit the house… or more accurately, hit the block wall behind the house. Took out the gate and part of the block wall. Cute, will have to use a leash on the dog when they go out until it is fixed.
Some young jerk… no… this guy looks around my age… yep, 1951, he is older. The vehicle, a 2002 blue Corvette apparently taking it for a spin. Not his car, belongs to a friend. I’m sure his friend is going to be really happy.
I can hear him telling the cop that he was going about 45mph and swerved to miss a dog… right.. doubt there is a dog, really doubt the speed too… Really surprised but apparently no alcohol is involved.
Hard to figure how he hit like he did as it looks like he would have been coming the other direction.

*Edit* Just noticed that the vehicle has an illegal license plate cover that blocks the license place from a flash. Wonder if they caught that.
WM6 Stop SMS Sent Message Notification
Loaded some SMS chat software that wanted to to test and when I removed it I now had an SMS Sent Message Notification each time I sent a new SMS message. Annoying…
Even though I already had unchecked the Request Delivery Notifications in:
Messaging -> Text Messages -> Tools -> Options -> Text Messages
It was still being sent.
So I turned it off with aRegistry Hack
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSNoSentMsg = 1
It is a Decimal DWORD.
For me, the key didn’t exist, but as soon as I added it… presto, no more sent message notifications.
