Amazon Kindle Fire
My wife really wanted one of these.... actually, she has wanted a tablet of any kind for some time now. Hard to justify the cost of the iPad2 when she already has a high powered Notebook (Intel i7) to do her FarmVille etc...
A unit was ordered for her (birthday) on Nov 1st and I really expected that it would ship within a week of the released date based on the numbers of units that have been reported sold and built, but I was actually quite shocked that it actually arrived ON release data Nov 15h. Really didn't expect that.
I've had some time to play with it and have learned a lot of cool stuff.. I like the device a lot and she loves it.
Now I have one...
So I ended up getting one. It is now fully rooted and I am using a different launcher (was Go Launcher but I switched to AWD to see what that is like this morning).
Below are notes and stuff I have collected that might help if you are looking at one of these.
Note: Rooting is NOT a big deal. Unlike most smartphones, rooting currently is not changing the Recovery system, so adding root and removing it is very simple.
